Educational Outreach
I enjoy giving public talks. Some venues include the ʻImiloa Astronomy Center and Griffith Observatory.
I am interested in equitable and inclusive education. I have participated multiple times in the Professional Development Program (PDP), led by the Institute for Science and Engineering Educators at UC Santa Cruz. Through PDP, I have designed teaching activities designed with equality in mind. I led a design team that taught for the Akamai Workforce Initiative, which is a program that places students with ties to Hawaii into technology internships in the state. I have written a paper about the program here.
I am also interested in sharing the beauty of astronomy with the community. At UCLA, I have been a coordinator for the award winning program, Astronomy Live, which conducts school visits in the Los Angeles area. I also give planetarium shows at the UCLA Planetarium.
I have been an annual participant as an educator at the Journey Through the Universe outreach program, which takes place on Hawaii Island.
